Fall Series - The Hippie Prophets
In September we will hear the words of wisdom and promise from Hosea, Joel, Amos, and Micah, prophets of ancient Israel.  Often referred to as “minor” prophets because of the short length of their writings and not because of their impact, these four have given us some of the most quoted texts of the Old Testament.  Pouring God’s Spirit anew on the people, beating swords into plowshares, justice flowing like rivers, and walking humbly with God are the main themes of these prophets.  In the early 70’s the “Jesus freak” movement embraced these prophets as precursors and mentors in spirit with Jesus, as his message of love, compassion, and justice was so similar to theirs.  Hence the nickname, “Hippie Prophets”  With a bit of tongue in cheek we will take a playful approach to that idea but a serious approach to what their words mean for us in our current society.    ---Pastor Ron
